PM MITRA Parks to Boost Textile Sector with Rs 18500 Crore Investment

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the Indian government has received investment proposals of Rs 18,500 crore under the PM MITRA Park initiative to boost textile industry production, employment, and exports.

With an investment of Rs 4,445 crore over five years, from 2021 to 2028, the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) plan will build extensive, cutting-edge industrial infrastructure throughout the textile value chain. Virudhnagar in Tamil Nadu, Warangal in Telangana, Navsari in Gujarat, Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Dhar in Madhya Pradesh, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, and Amravati in Maharashtra are the seven parks’ finalised locations.

An estimated 3 lakh direct and indirect jobs and Rs 10,000 crore in investments are anticipated to be generated by each park. By providing integrated ecosystems for exporters and producers, the program seeks to boost India’s potential as a global centre for the textile industry.

The government is launching several initiatives in addition to PM MITRA, such as the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, the Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS), and the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP). Programs like SAMARTH, Silk Samagra-2, and the National Handloom and Handicraft Development Programs are also available to help small enterprises and craftsmen with marketing, technology advancement, and skill development.

To give a boost to the handloom industry, assistance is given for raw materials, improved equipment, solar lighting, work sheds, product development, and marketing assistance. The welfare of workers is also enhanced by social security pensions and concessional loans under the weavers’ MUDRA system.

The government envisions a revolutionary transformation of India’s textile industry through the PM MITRA Park program and related initiatives, creating massive investments, job opportunities, and boosting the country’s competitiveness internationally in the years to come.
