EDANA welcomes five-year EU trade measures, with duties ranging from 39.8% to 48.1%, aimed at addressing unfair competition and protecting European production.
Brussels, Belgium, 3 November 2026: The European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) spunbond originating in China, following an investigation that found significant import increases and sales at unfairly low prices.
The regulation was published on 30 October 2026, with the definitive measures taking effect on 31 October 2026 for a period of five years. The duties range from 39.8% to 48.1%, following the introduction of provisional anti-dumping measures on 12 May 2026.
The Commission’s final decision confirmed that Chinese PET spunbond imports increased significantly during the investigation period, causing substantial injury to the European PET spunbond industry. It also concluded that imposing anti-dumping measures was in the interest of the European Union.
The duties are intended to restore fair competition in the European market and safeguard the region’s industrial production capacity.
EDANA Welcomes the Commission’s Decision
Welcoming the measures, Jacques Prigneaux, Market Analysis & Economic Affairs Director at EDANA, said the decision sends an important signal about the European Commission’s commitment to addressing unfair trade practices.
He stated that restoring fair competition is essential not only to protect EU production but also to support investments in innovation, sustainability and employment. These investments are considered necessary to meet the EU’s broader strategic industrial ambitions.
Monitoring of Anti-Dumping Measures
With the definitive duties now in force, EDANA said it will continue working with the European Union and national customs authorities to monitor how the measures are applied.
The association also acknowledged the European Commission’s investigation and its efforts to maintain fair market conditions across the EU.
The decision marks a significant trade measure for the European PET spunbond sector, providing additional protection against imports found to be entering the market at unfairly low prices.
