The largest worldwide textile and fashion event, the ITMF Annual Conference and IAF World Fashion Convention, revealed its business agenda. From September 8–10, 2024, Samarkand will host the event. The conference, titled “Innovation, Cooperation, and Regulation – Driving Forces of the Textile and Apparel Industry,” will highlight the world’s most pressing issues and trends in the global textile industry through expert discussions and multiple panel sessions. In collaboration with the Uztextileprom Association, the event is set to convene more than five hundred industry experts, comprising top global textile enterprises, trademarks, banks, and merchants.

The first day will be dedicated to the topic of fibers, with a focus on raw cotton production and processing. Experts from Global Textile (Uzbekistan), Indorama Corp. (Singapore), and Cotton Analytics (USA) will lead a panel discussion on the evolution of cotton from field to fashion, as well as the country’s transition from tradition to innovation and the shifts that have taken place in the global cotton market over the past fifty years. The manufacturing of synthetic fibers and the dearth of natural resources in the world’s textile industry will be the main topics of the second section.

The conference’s second and major day will cover a wide range of current topics and international trends. The EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles and opportunities for global collaboration will be presented by Euratex (Belgium), and the regulatory landscape in the US will be discussed by Steve Lamar of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA, USA). The focus will be on tackling the skills gap in the textile industry, digitization, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the textile manufacturing chain. Participants will talk about digital distribution with Christian Lott from DMIx (Germany) and digital labeling with AAFA (USA). This session will also address the role of AI in addressing the skills deficit in the textile sector. At the Registan Complex, a colorful light and fashion extravaganza will round off the second day.

The ITMF Awards and ITMF Start-up Award ceremony, which honors exceptional accomplishments and new ventures in the international textile sector, will take place at the end of the combined conference. Representatives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Epic Group (Hong Kong, China), and Inditex (Spain) will convene for the last session on partnership to deliberate on the prospects for waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.

Delegates will take part in a comprehensive cultural program following the conclusion of the business agenda, which includes trips to nearby textile mills and the historic city of Bukhara, one of the principal centers of the Great Silk Road.
