Shri Bhadresh Dodhia, Chairman of MATEXIL (Man-Made Fibre and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council) and Co-Chairman of the Core Committee, stated, “Bharat Tex 2025 has provided an excellent platform to promote man-made fibre and technical textiles.” Around 250 companies participated in Bharat Tex 2025 through MATEXIL, which promotes exports of man-made fibre textiles, including fibre, yarn, fabrics, made-ups (such as home textiles), and technical textiles. Additionally, about 370 foreign buyers from various countries attended the event through MATEXIL’s invitation and arrangements.
Prime Minister’s Visit & Key Industry Insights
During Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to Bharat Tex 2025 on February 16, 2025, Shri Bhadresh Dodhia briefed him on the MMF sector and recycling. He highlighted that while India has traditionally been strong in cotton, the country is rapidly advancing in the man-made fibre sector. The industry is ready to invest in meeting the growing demand for man-made fibres.
Presenting a garment made from recycled plastic bottles, Shri Dodhia showcased the increasing use of recycled ocean plastic in textile production, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of ocean conservation.
Role of MSMEs
The Prime Minister, in his address at Bharat Tex 2025, emphasized the crucial role of MSMEs in textiles and urged banks to ensure greater credit availability for the sector. Shri Bhadresh Dodhia noted that the National Manufacturing Mission, announced in the Union Budget 2025, will significantly benefit MSMEs, which contribute 80% of manufacturing capacities in the textile and clothing sector. He further stated that the revised MSME definitions in the budget will help businesses expand production while retaining the benefits provided to MSMEs.
Focus on Sustainability & Technology
Addressing sustainability and innovation in the textile sector, the Prime Minister encouraged the youth to bring forward new ideas. Shri Dodhia acknowledged the Prime Minister’s observations on the growing technical textiles sector, noting that India’s domestic market for technical textiles has now reached approximately US$ 22 billion. MATEXIL has developed a vision and action plan to boost technical textile exports while working closely with manufacturers and exporters.
Recycling & Upcycling
The Prime Minister highlighted concerns over the environmental impact of fast fashion and stressed the need for increased recycling and upcycling efforts. “Textile recycling will require investments,” said Shri Dodhia, expressing confidence that growing awareness around sustainability will drive new investments in the sector, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision.
