The new line of ENCOR® bio-based aqueous dispersions from Arkema, a pioneer in speciality materials, is intended for use in textile printing and finishing. With up to 30% bio-based content (1) and up to 40% lower carbon footprint (2) than standard textile resins, these binders are helping the textile industry reduce the carbon footprint of its products and promote a more sustainable way of living.
Given that the textile value chain accounts for 6–8% of global emissions (3), it is imperative that the industry change and lower its carbon footprint in light of rising demand. According to Helene Pernot, Global Sustainability Marketing Director at Coating Solutions, “bio-based solutions help our customers reach their sustainability and carbon reduction goals by laying the groundwork for the next generation of more sustainable textile products.”
“Arkema’s methodology covers the full lifecycle”: “From the use of renewable and lower carbon feedstocks to safer products like formaldehyde and APEO-free (4) formulations that meet Oeko-Tex® Eco Passport standards (6) and/or are suitable for food contact (5),” Patricia BEURDELEY, Global Market Manager Nonwovens & Textile @Coating Solutions, stated. “We also prioritise end-of-life management, working to improve colour solidity, washing resistance, durability, and the biodegradability of our future grades.”
