The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Dhirubhai Ambani.

The grand finale of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Shree Market Silk Merchants Association took place on 14th April at the Garware Club House, Mumbai. Chief Guest Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister, posthumously conferred the “Lifetime Achievement Award” upon Late Dhirubhai Ambani, the iconic founder of Reliance Group. He also launched a commemorative textile souvenir during the event.

Lodha reflected on India’s rich textile legacy—from the famed Dhaka muslin to Dhirubhai Ambani’s contribution to industrial-scale textile production, and Prime Minister Modi’s current push with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Padmabhushan Kundanbhai Vyas, Guest of Honour, highlighted that while Surat and Ahmedabad are thriving, Mumbai’s textile scene has slowed, urging modernization of outdated markets and improved infrastructure in the city.

Newly elected President Neeraj Mehta emphasized the emergence of opportunities in sustainable fashion, digital innovation, and global trade. He also shared that the association’s education fund, supported by Reliance Foundation, has aided 650 students over the past four years.

Former President Narendra Mehta underlined the importance of the association’s arbitration role, which is legally recognized, aiming for amicable resolutions first. Legal advice is provided by Advocate Rakesh Jain.

Guest and sponsor Pankaj Sheth from Orbit Exports likened traders to service providers, acting as crucial links between weavers and consumers. Meanwhile, Smt. Sushma Morthania from the India SME Forum encouraged the textile industry to leverage the 75 upcoming industrial hubs.

Honorary Secretary Jayantilal Jain delivered the vote of thanks.
