Deputy Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Shri Ajit Dada Pawar, lay the foundation stone for the Surjagad Ispat Pvt. Ltd. steel plant in Gadchiroli in a historic ceremony. With a Rs. 10,000 crore investment, this massive project is anticipated to directly and indirectly create jobs for over 7,000 people.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis expressed optimism that Gadchiroli district will soon overtake other districts in the state as the most progressive one at the occasion. He emphasized that in the future, thirty percent of the steel produced in the state will come from Gadchiroli alone. Gadchiroli would emerge as Maharashtra’s premier district and the nation’s biggest steel hub, Fadnavis added.

He mentioned the planned building of an airport in the area as well as the founding of a medical college while discussing the benefits of industry for the tribal population. Fadnavis announced plans to start water transport from Chamorshi to Kakinada port and turn Gadchiroli into a center for education.
The significance of launching a significant business in Gadchiroli with an investment of Rs. 10,000 crore was highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajit Dada Pawar. He emphasized that in addition to meeting the nation’s steel requirements, this project would create a large number of job possibilities for locals.
“We are contributing to our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by making significant investments and promoting industrial development in Maharashtra,” said Vedansh Joshi, MD of Surjagad Ispat Pvt. Ltd. In the 340-acre Naxal-affected area of Wadlapeth village, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, we are building an integrated steel mill. Our project consists of a 1.2 MTPA Pellet Plant, a 1.6 MTPA Beneficiation Plant, a 4 x 650 TPD sponge iron plant, a 0.75 MTPA induction furnace, a 0.75 MTPA rolling mill, a 120 MW captive power plant, and a 1.2 MTPA pellet plant. In phase 2, we want to expand to a 2 million tons integrated steel factory. After everything is finished, we want to produce eight million tons of integrated steel.”
Prominent dignitaries, including Cabinet Ministers Uday Samant and Dr. Dharmaraobaba Atram, graced the Bhoomi Pujan event. Also there were a number of government representatives. The project is anticipated to start its first phase in 2026 and be finished in its entirety by 2030.
