3 lakh people are anticipated to receive employment-related skills at a cost of 495 crores.
Samarth is the Ministry of Textiles’ demand-driven, placement-focused umbrella skilling program. With a budget of Rs. 495 crore, the Samarth Scheme has been extended for two years (FY 2024–25 and 2025–26) in order to train 3 lakh people in textile-related skills. The scheme covers the whole textile value chain, with the exception of spinning and weaving, and attempts to promote and encourage the industry in producing jobs in organised textile and associated areas. The curriculum and training program have been streamlined to accommodate changing market demands and technology advancements.
The program offers upskilling and reskilling classes in addition to entry-level skilling to increase the productivity of current employees in the apparel and garmenting industries. Additionally, Samarth meets the reskilling and upskilling requirements of traditional textile industries including jute, silk, handlooms, and handicrafts. Textile Industry/Industry Associations, Central/State government agencies, and Sectoral Organisations of the Ministry of Textiles, such as DC/Handloom, DC/Handicrafts, Central Wool Development Board, and Central Silk Board, are the Implementing Partners (IPs) that carry out the program.
Under Samarth Scheme, the Ministry, through implementing partners, has trained 3.27 lakh candidates, of which 2.6 lakh (79.5%) have been employed. There is a strong emphasis on women’s employment, and 2.89 lakh (88.3%) women have been trained so far.
