Growth of Technical Textiles in India

TECHNICAL TEXTILE VALUE CHAIN took an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW of Debabrata Ghosh, Vice President and Sales Director, Oerlikon Textiles India.

Could you brief us about your company and your work in the technical textile industry?

The growth in technical textiles is inevitable. It is becoming a well-known industry. There is a lot of infrastructural growth being done in India, including roads and other industries, which have scope for technical textiles. The growth in the medical field and agricultural fields is also growing.

At Oerlikon, we have a complete portfolio to supply the Industrial Yarn Spinning Machines, right from polymerisation to the finished yarn, which accounts for the basic input materials for the technical textiles. We also have the geotextiles and nonwovens, high-quality melt-blown and spun bonded lines. We hope that we will be getting major projects for industrial yarn spinning. We hope to supply the best quality machinery for both Nylon and Polyester.

We do see a bright future in India for technical textiles. All the government policies are very proactive, and the NTTM is there to support the industry in a very big way, both in R&D and production. We also need to set up good quality laboratories and Centres of Excellence to excel in this sector.

Tell us about the PLI scheme.

The PLI scheme is an extraordinary scheme given to the people in India. It will help to set up a facility right from the polymers to the finished products. The customers who are going to avail of this scheme are going to be benefitted from the scheme. The success of the scheme will depend and we can see its benefits in the coming years.
