In order to improve sustainability and aesthetic appeal, a new denim finishing process is being developed in partnership with Jeanologia, a sustainable textile solutions company, Kipaş Denim, a leader in integrated textile production based in Turkey, and Archroma, a global leader in specialty chemicals toward sustainable solutions.
The three textile pioneers have combined their cutting-edge technologies to introduce Kipaş Denim’s new Contra Denim concept, a breakthrough in denim dyeing and finishing that allows brands to create gorgeous and durable distressed looks and designs effects, like intricate patterns, whiskering, and fades, using cleaner processes that use less energy and water and emit fewer greenhouse gases.
Denim production has always been difficult, particularly when it comes to black and indigo cloth that has a worn-out or distressed appearance. It requires a lot of water, dangerous chemicals, and labor-intensive physical work. The colors in the Contra Denim line are rich and long-lasting, making it both laser- and laundry-friendly. Using washing or laser processes, stunning antique wash-down effects and extreme contrasts are produced.
Contra Denim is based on Archroma’s DENIM HALO, a novel method of producing denim that combines dyeing techniques and resource-saving pretreatments like DIRSOL® RD to create denim that is easy to wash and laser-friendly. In comparison to the industry-standard denim finishing technique, it has a significantly less environmental impact while also lowering yarn shrinkage and enhancing the tensile strength of the garment.
The Contra Denim’s retro aesthetic is produced using Jeanologia’s cutting-edge laser branding technology. The hazardous practices of manually scraping by hand or spraying potassium permanganate on the environment have been totally eradicated thanks to the combination of Archroma and Jeanologia technology.
Umberto De Vita, Market Segment Director – Denim, Archroma Textile Effects, stated: “DENIM HALO, part of Archroma’s SUPER SYSTEMS+ portfolio of end-to-end solutions, is empowering our partners Kipaş Denim and Jeanologia to deliver denim with measurable environmental impact through the EIM software, as well as the colors and effects that consumers crave.” “This partnership exemplifies our planet-conscious roadmap in action, blending innovation and teamwork with an emphasis on customers and the environment.”
“As Kipaş Holding, our vision is to lead the change towards circular and renewable industries while being a fair and reliable company,” Kipaş Denim’s Mustafa Guleken stated. Through research and development, we hope to pave the path for a more sustainable and circular future in partnership with other leading companies in the sector, such as Archroma and Jeanologia. We are enabling global denim businesses to express their creative side with Contra Denim without sacrificing their manufacturing efficiency or environmental goals.
“As a purpose-driven textile technology company, we take pride in working with partners to accompany them through their transformational processes,” stated Fernando Cardona, Brain Box Team Manager at Jeanologia. Working with pioneers in the denim business who are leading the way in ethical denim production, like Archroma and Kipaş Denim, gives us great pleasure.
