
Delhi, New Delhi Together with VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) successfully carried out an immersive, practical automotive training program at three esteemed institutions—Engineering College Pillai (Mumbai) and Chennai’s Sathyabama University. On February 17, 2025, this industry-academia initiative gave students a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn about and experience cutting-edge automotive technology. It also helped companies find more students who are suitable for the industry and promoted the automotive sector among aspiring professionals.
With the Eicher Training Van serving as the central hub of learning, the program was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world application. The program integrated supervised classroom instruction with real-world experience, enabling Students can work using cutting-edge tools and equipment that are kept in the van. This program supports ASDC’s objective to improve talent development in India’s quickly changing automotive industry.

About 166 students from Pillai College of Engineering and 39 students from Sathyabama University participated enthusiastically in the program. The faculty and student responses emphasised the value of industry-led training in establishing technical proficiency and generating career pathways.
Mr. Kaushik Dey, Head of Aftermarket Competence Development at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., commented on the training’s effects, saying, “VECV, a major participant in the commercial vehicle category, understands the value of developing new talent. Our goal with the Eicher Training Van is to provide students a practical grasp of automotive systems, maintenance, and diagnostics. Their technical expertise is strengthened by this practical approach, which also gets students ready for jobs in the fast-paced automotive sector.
By 2030, the automotive sector in India is expected to account for 12% of the nation’s GDP, indicating that it is ready for substantial growth (Source: IBEF). As the need for qualified workers grows, programs like the Eicher Training Van are essential in providing with real-world expertise that meets industry standards. India needs more than 25 million trained workers in the automotive industry by 2025 to meet its growth trajectory, per a report by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
This program guarantees maximum impact and outreach by carefully choosing colleges that support ASDC’s training goals. The program’s performance demonstrates the value of practical instruction in improving students’ employability and promoting industry prepared experts.
