Lenzing completes €100 million upgrade in Indonesia

Lenzing Group has made significant technical improvements to its PT South Pacific viscose plant in Purwakarta, Indonesia, having invested more than €100 million there since 2021.

With the imminent completion of work to convert existing production capacity to speciality viscose, Lenzing is in a better position to serve the strongly growing demand for speciality fibres.

The company is seeking Ecolabel standard certification to enable the full product portfolio Ecovero branded fibres for textiles and Veocel branded fibres for nonwoven applications to be supplied from the plant.

In addition, it is significantly reducing emissions at the site which has started to obtain renewable grid electricity and a changeover to biomass in line with Lenzing’s goals of reducing carbon emissions per ton of product by 50% by 2030 and achieving carbon-neutral production by 2050.

“The demand for speciality fibres with low environmental impactscontinues to grow,” said CEO Stephan Sielaff. “We see enormous growth potential in Asia in particular. Through our investments in Indonesia and also at other Lenzing sites worldwide, we are in a better position to serve this growing demand. At the same time, we continue working tirelessly to make the industries in which we operate even more sustainable and to drive the transformation of the textile business model from linear to circular.
