In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and innovation, MYGroup, a trusted name in textile recycling for over 30 years, is set to unveil a state-of-the-art recycling factory that promises to reshape the future of the fashion and textiles industry. The factory’s launch, planned for this Autumn, marks a significant step towards embracing a circular approach to textile production and waste management.
MYGroup’s commitment to sustainability is evident through their recent acquisition of industrial sewing machines and specialized equipment from a clothing manufacturer, ensuring that the production process is as eco-friendly as possible. This strategic move is in response to the changing landscape of the fashion industry, where the traditional “take, make, and dispose” model is rapidly being replaced by more circular and eco-conscious practices.
The first phase of the factory, slated for completion this Autumn, will feature a cutting-edge sewing floor, a pattern-cutting studio, and ample storage space. Subsequent phases will see the addition of sorting, grading, and washing facilities, as well as modern offices and a dedicated training center. An additional £400,000 investment is in the pipeline to make the factory fully operational by the spring of 2024.
Katie Robinson, Textiles Manager at MYGroup, emphasized the urgency of adopting a circular approach, stating, “Legislation to enforce a more circular approach is fast approaching, and we are seeing more and more of the largest brands in the industry engaging with us on recycling their waste textiles.”
Steve Carrie, Director of MYGroup, added, “We are proud to launch this pioneering venture that showcases the company and the city of Hull’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. We’re ahead of the curve and building a factory of the future – our end-to-end recycling process combined with remanufacturing capabilities will revolutionize the way our industry thinks about textile waste.”
MYGroup’s reputation for trustworthiness has been built on their ability to process over 800,000 tons of waste annually through transparent procedures across their four state-of-the-art facilities in Yorkshire. This commitment to transparency and sustainability has made MYGroup a preferred partner for some of the largest brands and organizations in the UK.
As MYGroup gears up to unveil its cutting-edge factory, the fashion and textiles industry is set for a transformative journey towards circularity and sustainability. With forward-thinking initiatives like these, the future of fashion looks brighter and greener than ever before.
