Nineteen research projects are approved by the Ministry of Textiles

Under the direction of the Union Minister of Textiles, the Mission Steering Group has authorized 19 research projects totaling around INR 21 Cr. in various technical textile sectors as part of the National Technical Textiles Mission.

At the 9th Mission Steering Group meeting, research projects in a number of important strategic areas, including composites, geotextiles, smart textiles, and machinery, were authorized. Prominent research organizations and institutes, such as the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, among others, submitted the accepted proposals.

The Union Minister also looked over the mission’s advancements in R&D, marketing development, export promotion, education, training, and skill building. The Union Minister examined 27 applications that were previously granted for the introduction of papers on technical textiles, the purchase of lab equipment, and the training of trainers in a variety of application areas. The applications were from 16 public and 11 private institutes. He also went over the skill-building and internship programs the Ministry has implemented as part of the Mission.

The meeting was attended by influential members of industry and associations, Member NITI Aayog, Principal Scientific Adviser, Chairman ISRO, and senior officials from the Department of Science & Technology, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Railway Board, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Defence.
