OceanSafe has claimed the 2023 Design Prize Switzerland in the Circular Design category for the DualCircuit t-shirt, developed in collaboration with ZIVI, the Swisss Federal Office for the Civil Service.
The t-shirt meets all of ZIVI’s requirements for durability, performance and comfort in wear and professional care and is based on OceanSafe’s naNea.
This is a new synthetic polymer that is being turned into fibres, filaments and yarns with all the favourable processing and performance properties of polyester, while at the same time being circular, biodegradable and toxin-free. The t-shirt is certified Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) Gold for both the biological and technical cycles.
“We believe we have a truly revolutionary and proprietary circular synthetic polymer for fibres and yarns,” said OceanSafe’s chief marketing officer Matthias Fuchs in an interview with Innovation in Textiles that can be read here.
The award was presented at a special ceremony held in Langenthal, Switzerland, on November 3rd.
The t-shirt will be supplied to workers in 2024 and OceanSafe and ZIVI are now collaborating on a national take-back system and the establishment of advanced processes to allow for complete depolymerization at end of life, extracting all essential raw materials to produce new textiles of the same high quality.
