Composites can be defined as a combination of dissimilar materials to perform a task that neither of constituent materials can perform alone. Generally the composites are made up of the reinforced materials (textile performs) and Matrix (binder). Applications of composites are steadily increasing with advancement in technology and are replacing metal and metal alloys.
A few examples of the fibers used in composites are glass, carbon; aramid fibers and matrix are Thermoset Resins and thermoplastic resins. Classification of composites is done in several ways depending on performs structural parameters discussed in the paper. Manufacturing techniques of the composites has been discussed in the paper as in the fiber form, fabric forms, braided and some other forms. Some of the manufacturing techniques practiced commonly are Hand and machine layup, Resin transfer molding, Spray up molding etc. In the paper also the properties, testing and applications of the composite textiles in various fields are discussed as well.
Composite textiles are really going to have a dominating and influencing effect on the globalized world and only one phrase suitable to this is The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is a little extra and this extra can be added in the case of the textiles world with the composite textiles only.
