In a significant development for the textile industry, the Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) park was inaugurated on Sunday in Amravati, located in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The park, with an expected investment of Rs 10,000 crore, aims to create employment opportunities for around 300,000 individuals.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, who applauded Maharashtra for being awarded the prestigious PM MITRA park. He emphasized that Maharashtra’s substantial contributions across the entire textile value chain make it a natural choice for such a textile park.
Speaking at the event, Minister Goyal highlighted the advantages of Amravati’s well-connected infrastructure, including its road, rail, port, and airport networks, which will play a vital role in boosting the textile industry in Maharashtra. The location’s proximity to the Mumbai Nagpur Samruddhi Highway, just 30 kilometers away, and the Wardha Dry Port, 147 kilometers away, further enhances its appeal.
Notable attendees at the ceremony included Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh, state Textile Minister Chandrakant Patil, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Union Ministry of Textiles Secretary Rachna Shah, and Maharashtra’s Principal Secretary (Industries) Dr. Harshdeep Kamble.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the Government of Maharashtra, and the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, solidifying the establishment of PM MITRA park.
Spread across a contiguous 1020 acres of land at Nandgaon Peth, adjacent to the Additional Amravati Industrial Area (MIDC), the park benefits from existing infrastructure such as roads, water, and electricity, as it is a brownfield park.
The PM MITRA park is set to bring substantial economic growth to the region, attracting investment and fostering employment opportunities in the textile sector. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of promoting the “Farm to Fiber to Factory to Fashion to Foreign” approach, which seeks to optimize the entire textile value chain and drive export competitiveness.
The launch of PM MITRA park in Maharashtra marks a significant milestone in the country’s textile industry, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, promoting investment, and creating employment opportunities in this vital sector. It is anticipated that the park will serve as a catalyst for the growth and development of the textile industry in the Vidarbha region and contribute to the overall progress of the state.
