I have worked in ATE for 40 years, where I first encountered technical textiles. Currently, I am working as a consultant with the Textile Machinery Manufacturers.
I have been working with technical textiles since 1994. The state of the industry during that period was remarkably primitive. Now, after three decades, the industry has grown sizeably. The parameters are very favorable for getting into this technical textile field. There are schemes like PLI, PM MITRA parks, etc, coming up which can help in the growth.
India imports a lot of technical textiles. There is tremendous scope to manufacture a lot of products, including diapers and other hygiene products, in our country as more and more investments are coming in.
The NTTM has given a huge boost to the industry. Also, recently, the government has given a grant of Rs 50 lakhs to new start-ups in the technical textiles field. All these factors can help the industry grow. The constraints like high-tech fibres and the textile machinery required are something that we need to overcome to grow faster.
India’s share will eventually grow in technical textiles as compared to the commodities and other segments of textiles.
