■ Technical Textile Sector is the Sunshine Sector of the Textile Industry. 

■ Technical textiles are textile materials and products used for their technical performance and  functional properties. Unlike conventional textiles used traditionally for clothing or furnishing,  technical textiles are used basically on account of their specic physical and functional properties and  mostly by other user industries and many institutional buyers.  

■ Technical Textile Sector in India is one of the fastest growing segments of the Indian Economy. The  Technical Textile sector is expected to see a double digit growth in coming years.  

■ The technical textile sector is projected to reach a market size of Rs. 2 lakh crores by 2020-21.  

■ As per baseline survey of Technical Textile Industry in India, there are around 2100 units  manufacturing Technical Textiles in India. Most of the units are concentrated in Gujarat followed by  Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. 

■ India has 4-5% share in the global Technical Textiles Market size across twelve segments of Technical  Textiles. 

■ The domestic sector has attracted several large international players such as Johnson and Johnson,  Procter & Gamble, 3M, DuPont, Maccaferri, Freudenberg, Terram, Kolpman, Lindstrom, Teijin,  Ahlstrom, STRATA Geosystems, Owens Corning etc.

■ Technical Textiles constitute 12-15% of the total textile value chain in India, However in some of the  European countries technical textiles constitute 50% of the total textile value chain.  

■ Technical Textiles industry is continuously evolving with several of the Traditional materials being  substituted by Technical Textiles due to advantages such as cost and performance.
