Hamburg, The annual conference of The Good Cashmere Standard® (GCS), hosted by the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), is scheduled for March 25 and 26, 2025, in Hamburg’s historic Speicherstadt warehouse area. International experts, fashion brands, businesses, and scientists will gather at this event hosted by the independent sustainability standard to talk about the most recent advancements in sustainable cashmere manufacturing. The utilisation of virtual reality, biodiversity, supply chain due diligence, and animal welfare will all be highlighted. The latter provides the chance to visit an Inner Mongolian GCS model farm.
The Good Cashmere Standard®, which was founded in 2019 by the Aid by Trade Foundation, has always been dedicated to clear traceability for casmere fibres in the textile supply chain and sustainable cashmere production. It focusses on the well-being of more than four million cashmere goats and the working conditions at more than 9,000 farms, making it one of the world’s top standards for sustainable cashmere. GCS-verified cashmere is used by more than 50 global companies, such as Galeries Lafayette, H&M, J. Crew, and The White Company.
The two-day conference, which is intended for representatives of fashion brands, cashmere producers, standards organisations, non-governmental organisations, textile companies, and other stakeholders, will provide insightful information about the latest trends and advancements in the cashmere industry. Additionally, it will offer a chance to network and learn more about the manufacture of sustainable cashmere.
The conference will be opened by Prof. Dr Michael Otto, the founder of the Aid by Trade Foundation, on Tuesday, 25 March, and Wednesday, 26 March 2025, in Hamburg’s historic Speicherstadt warehouse district.
More information about the conference and the event programme is available on the conference website. Direct ticket bookings can also be made there.
About The Good Cashmere Standard:
Through The Good Cashmere Standard® (GCS), the Aid by Trade Foundation has been setting the benchmark for the production of sustainable cashmere from Inner Mongolia since 2019. GCS criteria cover the most important aspects of cashmere production. Aiming to protect nature and to improve the welfare of cashmere goats and the living conditions of goat herders, the standard was developed with input from goat herders as well as experts in animal welfare and the industry. There are now some 9,100 farms with a total of 4.3 million goats participating in The Good Cashmere Standard®. Around 2,200 tonnes of cashmere wool are currently verified by The Good Cashmere Standard®. More than 50 international textile companies and household-name brands—including Bestseller, J.Crew, Galeries Lafayette, H&M, s.Oliver, and The White Company—use the verified cashmere wool for their products.
