Devendra Fadnavis, the chief minister of Maharashtra, gave authorities instructions on Monday to develop the textile industry in the state. He advocated for the creation of the Maharashtra State Textile Development Corporation (MSTDC) and the Maharashtra Technical Textile Mission (MTTM). He also emphasised the state’s participation in Bharat Tex 2025, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi. During a review of the 100-day action plan of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, these directions were given.
Fadnavis highlighted that in order to establish technical textile parks, Expressions of Interest (EOIs) must be invited. He also emphasised how crucial it is to successfully execute the Captive Market Scheme in order to support the regional textile sector. According to authorities, he ordered the implementation of an old-age pension plan for the social security of handloom weavers.
Pay attention to efficiency and innovation.
The Chief Minister commended the textile department’s efficiency and inventiveness. In order to enhance operations, he gave authorities instructions to digitise and automate systems. Additionally, according to an official, he promoted greater use of solar energy in spinning mills throughout Maharashtra.
The establishment of Urban Haat centres was advocated by Fadnavis in the Integrated and Sustainable Textile Policy 2023-28. The purpose of these institutes is to assist and encourage handloom makers. Additionally, he suggested working with Prasar Bharati to broadcast a series on the ancient textile business called “Kargha,” an official said.
Assistance to Handloom Weavers
Measures to assist handloom weavers through social security programs were part of the Chief Minister’s orders.
