In a groundbreaking collaboration between Japanese chemical giant Toray and U.S.-based fibre and technology solutions leader, The LYCRA Company, Toray Opelontex has emerged as a pioneer in the textile industry with its range of revolutionary elastic products. The company’s portfolio boasts two key products that are reshaping the market.
The first product, Polyurethane LYCRA® fibre, has garnered attention for its remarkable thinness and transparency, coupled with the ability to stretch up to seven times its original length. Initially favoured by the apparel sector, it has since found applications across diverse industries. The second offering, LYCRA® T400® fibre, features a unique bi-component structure that marries PET and PTT polymers within each filament, striking a delicate balance between style and comfort.
As the industry shifts towards sustainable practices, Toray Opelontex under the leadership of President Osamu Yamaji, is committed to developing a recycling system for textile products. Yamaji stresses the company’s dedication to delivering social value, encapsulated in its motto “Small but Diamond.” He emphasises that while LYCRA® fibre may be ‘invisible’ in the fabric, its impact is ‘visible’ – not just to individuals but to society at large. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Toray Opelontex is poised to lead the textile industry into a new era of elastic excellence.
