The partnership will establish a multi-phase recycling facility designed to process approximately 200 metric tons of textile waste per day in its first phase.
Circ® has partnered with Huafon, a leading spandex producer in China, to develop and scale a multi-phase textile-to-textile recycling facility in China. The project will expand Circ’s global recycling operations by combining its polycotton recycling technology with Huafon’s manufacturing infrastructure, industrial capabilities and investment.
The facility will be located within Huafon’s industrial footprint and will process polycotton textile waste to recover recycled purified terephthalic acid (PTA), recycled monoethylene glycol (MEG) and recycled cellulosic pulp. These recovered materials will be used in the production of new textiles.
The project will be developed in phases, with the first phase designed to process approximately 200 metric tons of textile waste per day. Additional capacity is planned.
Partnership Combines Recycling Technology and Industrial Capabilities
The collaboration brings together Circ’s textile recycling technology and Huafon’s manufacturing capabilities, infrastructure and market presence in China. Huafon will invest directly in the project alongside Circ and other selected investors.
Huafon’s experience in engineering, procurement, logistics and commercial operations is expected to support the facility’s industrial deployment. Circ contributes an established network of global brands, textile manufacturers and downstream customers for the materials produced through its recycling platform.
“China is at the center of global textile production, making it a critical location for scaling textileto-textile recycling. Huafon brings the industrial capabilities, experience, and investment to move quickly and build a platform that can scale well beyond this first site,” said Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ.
Huafon Brings Chemical Manufacturing Experience
Huafon is one of China’s leading chemical and advanced materials companies and one of the world’s largest spandex producers. The company has more than 30 years of experience in materials technology, innovation and chemical manufacturing.
Huafon has also expanded its international presence in advanced and sustainable materials through its acquisition of DuPont’s former Biomaterials business, now Covation Biomaterials. The acquisition provides the group with established operations in Newark, Delaware, and Kinston, North Carolina, as well as global customers and commercial relationships outside China.
“Circ has developed one of the most promising textile-to-textile recycling technologies we have seen, and Huafon is ready to help bring it to market. By combining Circ’s innovation with our industrial strength and investment, we can turn textile waste into high-quality materials at a scale the industry needs.” said Feifeng You, Vice President, Huafon Group, and Chairman, Huafon Microfibre Shanghai Tech Co. Ltd.
Project Aligns with China’s Circular Economy Priorities
The project aligns with China’s broader industrial priorities outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan, which emphasizes circular-economy development, improved waste recovery and reuse systems, greater use of high-quality recycled materials, green manufacturing and lower-carbon production.
China’s broader materials strategy also prioritizes advanced polymers, high-performance fibres and bio-based materials, areas that align with Circ and Huafon’s plans for circular textile materials.
As the facility’s capacity develops, the companies will engage with brands, supply-chain partners and downstream buyers. The broader project includes potential additional capacity phases, downstream commercial activity and the development of a long-term platform for circular textile production serving China and global markets.
