SITRA and TTRI Sign MoU to Advance Textile Innovation and Sustainability

The agreement will promote India–Taiwan cooperation in advanced fibres, medical textiles, sustainable processing, testing and textile technology development.

The South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen research collaboration and technical cooperation in textile innovation. The agreement was signed on 6 October 2026 during the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS) 2026, held in Taiwan from 6 to 8 October.

Mr. G. Raj Kumar, Vice Chairman of SITRA, signed the MoU on behalf of the Indian research association, while Mr. Chiu Sheng-fu, Vice President of TTRI, represented the Taiwanese institute. Industry leaders from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) attended the signing ceremony.

The partnership aims to support knowledge exchange, collaborative research and technology development across areas relevant to both countries’ textile industries.

Focus on Advanced Fibres and Medical Textiles

The collaboration will cover the development of man-made fibres for speciality applications, medical textiles and sustainable solutions for textile processing.

SITRA brings expertise in textile research, testing, consultancy, training and industry support. TTRI contributes capabilities in advanced textile technologies, applied research and innovation.

By combining these areas of expertise, the institutes intend to explore new materials, functional textile applications and technologies that address changing industry requirements.

Joint Research, Training and Knowledge Exchange

The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation, including capacity building, collaborative research and development, testing and technology development.

Planned activities include:

  • Training programmes and expert lectures
  • Technical workshops and researcher interactions
  • Industrial visits and knowledge-sharing initiatives
  • Collaborative research and development projects
  • Cooperation in testing methods and technology development

The partners will also explore opportunities in sustainable textile processing, functional and technical textiles, advanced fibres, resource-efficient manufacturing, recycling, circularity, digitalisation and automation.

These activities are intended to encourage knowledge transfer and strengthen technical capabilities across research institutions and the wider textile industry.

Cooperation in Testing and International Standards

Testing and standards form another part of the agreement. The two institutes plan to cooperate on quality assurance, laboratory practices, method validation and proficiency comparisons.

The collaboration will also address alignment with international requirements, supporting the development of textile products that meet relevant expectations for quality, safety, durability and sustainability.

Improved technical cooperation in testing and validation can help manufacturers strengthen product development and respond to the requirements of international markets.

Strengthening India–Taiwan Textile Research Links

The agreement establishes a framework for closer cooperation between SITRA and TTRI in textile research, technical development and knowledge exchange.

Through joint initiatives, the institutes aim to explore innovative and sustainable textile technologies while supporting the evolving needs of their respective industries. The collaboration also provides a platform for further engagement in advanced materials, manufacturing efficiency and textile testing.

The MoU marks a new step in India–Taiwan cooperation in textile research, with a focus on developing technical capabilities and encouraging innovation across the textile value chain.
