The CT S-WBOX.01 enables bulk identification of RFID-tagged Kanban cards, containers and textiles, supporting automated replenishment and return tracking across industrial and healthcare applications.
IDCRAFT GmbH offers the CT S-WBOX.01, a mobile UHF RFID self-service box developed by CRAFT TECHNOLOGIES for the automatic identification of multiple tagged items. The solution is designed for applications where materials, containers or textiles are regularly returned, including industrial manufacturing, commercial laundries and healthcare facilities.
Users place RFID-tagged items inside the box, where an integrated reader captures their electronic product codes (EPCs) in a batch read. The data is then transmitted to a connected host system, where returns can be documented, inventory records updated and replenishment processes initiated.
By eliminating the need to scan each item individually, the system is designed to reduce manual handling and support more efficient return workflows.
E-Kanban: Streamlining Material Replenishment
In industrial manufacturing, reliable material replenishment is essential to maintaining production workflows. Electronic Kanban systems use RFID-tagged cards or empty containers to signal when additional materials are required.
With the CT S-WBOX.01, employees can return multiple Kanban cards or containers in a single operation. The RFID reader identifies the tags and sends the data to the connected software, which can use the information to generate replenishment requests.
This batch-reading approach reduces the need for individual scanning, particularly in facilities with frequent material movements and recurring return processes. It also supports the timely transfer of replenishment information to the relevant systems.
Textile Returns in Laundries and Healthcare
The RFID self-service box can also support textile tracking in industrial laundries, hospitals and organisations operating centralised workwear management systems.
Employees can place used, RFID-tagged garments into the box in bulk. The system captures the associated tag data for documentation and subsequent processing, helping organisations maintain greater visibility over textile movements.
Potential applications include:
- Workwear collection and return management
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) tracking
- Hospital linen identification
- Rental textile returns
- Reusable container management
These applications can benefit from automated identification when large quantities of tagged items must be processed regularly.
Integrated UHF RFID Technology
The CT S-WBOX.01 incorporates a UHF RFID reader system for bulk tag identification. In the LARGE version, four UHF antennas are positioned around the interior and connected to the reader.
The system supports EPC Gen2 in accordance with ISO/IEC 18000-63 and operates in the European frequency band of 865–868 MHz. Captured EPC data can be transferred to a host system through Ethernet or USB.
The reader, antennas, power supply and cabling are integrated into the unit. A PC or kiosk terminal for the user interface can be connected separately but is not included in the delivery scope.
Two Sizes for Different Operating Environments
The CT S-WBOX.01 is available in two configurations to accommodate different space and handling requirements.
LARGE version
- Dimensions: 1430 × 1000 × 1120 mm
- Four integrated UHF antennas
- Hinged lid
- Handles and four casters for mobility
SMALL version
- Dimensions: 600 × 600 × 600 mm
- Compact design for facilities with limited space
The choice of configuration depends on the available installation area, the items being processed and the requirements of the intended workflow.
IDCRAFT Supports RFID Hardware Selection and Testing
Reliable batch reading depends on how the RFID transponders, tagged items and reader system work together. Factors such as material composition, tag placement and the arrangement of items inside the box can influence identification performance.
Patrick Kochendörfer, Managing Director of IDCRAFT GmbH, said: “It is crucial that RFID transponders and the reading system are optimally matched to the specific application. That’s why we test the solution with our customers’ actual products and ensure that batch reading works reliably even under real-world conditions.”
As a value-added distributor specialising in RFID technology, IDCRAFT supports businesses in selecting suitable hardware and evaluating application-specific requirements. Its approach focuses on reliable data capture and integration with existing processes.
