Switzerland’s Sanitized and Germany’s Rudolf have introduced new textile finishing technologies designed to improve the durability and performance of clothing and technical textiles.
Sanitized has launched Odorex EON, a biocide-free treatment that targets body oils and odour-causing residues in performance apparel. Meanwhile, Rudolf has introduced Ruco-Dry Eco CWS, a water-repellent finish designed to improve resistance to rain and moisture, particularly in cotton fabrics.
Both developments focus on extending textile service life. They address functional challenges that go beyond conventional durability measures such as strength, abrasion resistance and wash performance.
Sanitized Introduces Biocide-Free Odour Control Technology
Persistent odours remain a challenge for sportswear manufacturers. Synthetic garments can develop unpleasant smells even after repeated washing. This problem, often called “permastink”, occurs when sebum and other residues gradually accumulate within textile fibres.
Sanitized’s Odorex EON uses a dual-action approach to tackle both immediate odours and their long-term accumulation.
During wear, the treatment adsorbs and neutralises odour molecules. It also creates a protective layer that helps release sebum residues during laundering.
As a result, the technology aims to prevent the gradual build-up of contaminants. This can help garments remain fresh and wearable for longer.
Unlike conventional antimicrobial treatments, Odorex EON does not rely on inhibiting bacterial growth to control odours. Instead, its biocide-free approach focuses on the physical and chemical management of odour molecules and residues.
“Durability is often discussed in terms of physical properties such as strength or abrasion resistance, but a garment that is technically intact has little value if persistent odour means it is no longer worn,” says Stefan Müller, head of textile additives at Sanitized.
Sanitized officially launched the technology at Performance Days in Munich on 13–14 October 2026.
Rudolf Develops Water-Repellent Finish for Cotton Fabrics
Meanwhile, Rudolf has introduced Ruco-Dry Eco CWS to improve water protection in cotton fabrics. The treatment combines water repellency with high hydrostatic pressure resistance.
The technology targets outdoor clothing and technical textile applications. These include:
- Outdoor apparel
- Tents
- Awnings
- Umbrellas
In these applications, fabrics must resist rain and moisture during regular use. Therefore, reliable water protection plays an important role in maintaining product performance.
Rudolf also offers the treatment under its established Bionic-Finish Eco brand.
“In technical textiles, durability is measured by performance under real-life conditions. Whether used in tents, outdoor equipment or other demanding applications, materials must provide reliable protection against rain and moisture throughout their service life,” says Luka Kovacevic, global head of the application centre for technical textiles at Rudolf.
Focus on Longer-Lasting Textile Performance
The two developments address different aspects of textile durability. Sanitized focuses on controlling persistent odours, while Rudolf targets water repellency and weather protection.
However, both technologies share a common objective: helping textiles retain their functional properties for longer.
As manufacturers explore ways to improve product durability, specialised finishing technologies can play an important role. They can help clothing and technical textiles remain functional and useful throughout their service life.
