INDA Announces Four Finalists for 2026 Hygienix Innovation Award

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, has announced four finalists for the 2026 Hygienix Innovation Award™, recognising developments in absorbent hygiene products, reusable nonwoven materials, stretch fibres and specialised diaper solutions.

The finalists are Anabio Technologies, Confitex Technology, The LYCRA Company and Youth Crews. They will present their innovations at Hygienix 2026, scheduled for November 16–19 at the Hyatt Regency Houston in Houston, Texas. The award winner will be announced on November 19 at 11:30 a.m.

The shortlisted innovations address several areas of absorbent hygiene, including flushable menstrual care, washable nonwoven products, adaptive stretch technology and diapers designed for older children with disabilities.

Four Innovations Selected for the Award

Anabio Technologies: Flushable Sanitary Pad

Anabio Technologies has developed a patented flushable sanitary pad designed to combine menstrual protection with dispersibility after flushing.

According to the company, the pad features a multilayer structure designed to provide up to 12 hours of protection before dispersing when flushed. The product has reportedly undergone independent testing to meet International Water Services Flushability Group (IWSFG) requirements.

It is designed for use with flush toilets, septic systems and pit latrines. The company also states that the pad can be manufactured using standard converting lines, potentially supporting production at scale.

The innovation focuses on menstrual care products designed to combine convenience, affordability and alternative end-of-life disposal options.

Confitex Technology: Washable Nonwoven Car Seat Protectors

Confitex Technology has extended its reusable absorbent hygiene expertise into the automotive market with washable nonwoven car seat protectors.

The company states that the products can absorb and retain 24 fluid ounces (700 ml) of liquid within a patented leak-resistant frame. Independent verification has reportedly confirmed their performance, including durability after more than 30 wash cycles.

Made entirely from nonwoven materials, the seat protectors represent an application of reusable absorbent technology beyond conventional personal hygiene products.

Confitex previously received the 2025 Hygienix Innovation Award for its washable nonwoven sanitary pad, which the company describes as the world’s first product of its kind designed for sustainability and scalability without superabsorbent polymers.

The LYCRA Company: LYCRA® ADAPTIV Fiber

The LYCRA Company has been shortlisted for LYCRA® ADAPTIV fiber, a stretch technology developed for absorbent hygiene and personal care products using technology originally developed for apparel.

According to the company, the spandex polymer’s chemistry allows it to adapt to the wearer, with intended benefits including all-day comfort, inclusive sizing, easier dressing and removal, and a close-fitting feel.

The innovation applies stretch-fibre technology to personal care products, with an emphasis on fit, flexibility and the wearing experience.

Youth Crews: Youth Crews Diapers

Youth Crews has developed tab-style diapers for children aged four to 17 who have outgrown baby diapers but do not fit adult products.

The range includes sizes nine through 12 and features a pulp-free absorbent core, leg gathers designed for seated use and a profile intended to fit discreetly under clothing.

The company was founded by a father who experienced difficulties finding a suitable diaper for his daughter. Its products address a specific need within the absorbent hygiene market: providing age-appropriate options for older children with disabilities.

Youth Crews also offers free product samples through its website.

Hygienix Innovation Award Recognises Product Development

The Hygienix Innovation Award highlights developments intended to address consumer requirements, product performance and sustainability in absorbent hygiene.

Commenting on the finalists, Matt O’Sickey, INDA’s director of education and technical affairs, said: “Hygienix Innovation Award finalists represent the future of absorbent hygiene. These companies are pushing boundaries with solutions that address consumer needs, sustainability goals and performance demands. Their work highlights the innovative spirit that drives our industry forward.”

The four shortlisted products demonstrate different approaches to product development, from reusable nonwoven structures and fibre technology to specialised absorbent products and alternative disposal solutions.

Hygienix 2026 to Feature Workshops and Industry Discussions

Alongside the awards programme, Hygienix 2026 will feature exhibitions, networking activities, workshops and technical sessions focused on absorbent hygiene.

The event will include two evenings of exhibitions and receptions featuring suppliers and solution providers. Three workshops scheduled for Monday afternoon will cover absorbent hygiene cores, sustainable hygiene and market intelligence for baby diapers.

Other activities include a Women in Nonwovens luncheon focused on mentorship, leadership and collaboration, as well as Lightning Talks featuring five-minute presentations on exhibitor innovations.

A Lunch Around session with Mike Carroll, founder and CEO of Intelligent Conversations, will address building predictable and scalable sales success through data, coaching and accountability. A welcome reception is also scheduled for Monday evening.

Conference Programme to Cover Materials, Markets and Regulation

The Hygienix 2026 conference programme will address commercial, technical and regulatory issues affecting the absorbent hygiene sector.

Planned sessions include “Executive Outlook: The Global Forces Shaping Absorbent Hygiene” and “The Business Case for Better Adult Incontinence Solutions.”

Panel discussions will examine diaper start-ups and product insecurity, including “Diaper Start-Ups — Myths vs. Reality” and “A Stronger Fabric for a Better Future: Addressing Product Insecurity Through Innovation, Policy and Partnership.”

Technical sessions will cover precompetitive collaboration, bio-based superabsorbent polymers, absorbency engineering, fluid management and material performance. Other topics include new applications for materials, hygiene substrate innovation, sustainability, and evolving policy, standards and product requirements for absorbent hygiene products.

Hygienix 2026 will take place from November 16–19 at the Hyatt Regency Houston. Registration, exhibition space and sponsorship information are available through the official event website.
