Inthing Expands into Global Markets After 68 Years

The fashion and apparel company is leveraging its manufacturing, supply-chain and distribution capabilities as it prepares to establish a wider international footprint.

Inthing, a homegrown fashion and apparel company with roots dating back to 1958, is preparing to expand its presence into global markets as part of its next phase of growth.

The international expansion marks a new stage for the multi-generational business, which has evolved over 68 years from fabric trading and textile manufacturing into an integrated fashion and apparel enterprise.

With the third generation taking a more active role in the business, Inthing is focusing on its manufacturing experience, supply-chain capabilities and distribution expertise as it works towards establishing a wider international footprint.

Hub-and-Spoke Manufacturing Model

The consolidation of Inthing’s production network into a hub-and-spoke structure forms an important part of its scale-up strategy.

The company operates three Master Units as central manufacturing hubs, supported by nine smaller manufacturing units. The structure is designed to improve coordination and create a more integrated production ecosystem.

Inthing’s international expansion is being developed around these existing manufacturing and operational capabilities rather than as a standalone export initiative. The company plans to use its production scale, industry experience and established supply-chain network as the foundation for its international growth.

Third-Generation Leadership

Akshat Bhutra, the third generation of the family business and son of Manmohan Bhutra, is driving the company’s next phase.

His involvement has been accompanied by a focus on manufacturing consolidation, operational efficiency, scalability and preparing Inthing for opportunities beyond the Indian market.

“For us, going global is a natural progression of what has been built over the last 68 years. We have spent decades strengthening our understanding of manufacturing, products and distribution, and the focus now is to take these capabilities to a much larger market. As the next generation, my responsibility is to preserve the strengths that have brought us this far while building the systems, scale and outlook required for Inthing to compete globally.”

Manufacturing and Distribution Network

Inthing’s manufacturing ecosystem is supported by approximately 1,500 employees and an annual production capacity of around 18 lakh garments.

Its manufacturing infrastructure includes three Master Units spread across approximately 1.5 lakh sq. ft., connected to nine smaller manufacturing units through the integrated hub-and-spoke model.

The company also has a domestic distribution network comprising more than 200 wholesalers and over 10,000 retailers. This network reaches approximately 300 cities across 25 states and six Union Territories.

From Fabric Trading to Fashion and Apparel

Inthing’s business journey began in 1958, when B.K. Maheshwari and Ramesh Arora started their entrepreneurial activities in fabric trading.

The company subsequently moved towards backward integration, developing capabilities across yarn, fabric and garment manufacturing.

The next phase involved Manmohan Bhutra and Amit Arora, who explored opportunities in fabric exports and garment retail before developing a consumer-facing fashion brand.

After 68 years of development across multiple generations, Inthing is now preparing for another phase of its business transformation, moving from a strong domestic presence towards international markets.

The company’s global expansion strategy is centred on leveraging its established manufacturing infrastructure, supply-chain capabilities and distribution experience as it explores opportunities beyond India.
