FET Showcases Fibre Spinning Innovations at Dornbirn Congress

Fibre Extrusion Technology highlights its melt spinning, nonwoven and solvent-free UHMWPE gel spinning technologies at the international fibre industry event.

Fibre Extrusion Technology Limited (FET) presented its latest fibre processing technologies at the Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress in Austria in September 2026. Dr Jonny Hunter delivered a presentation titled “Spinning a good yarn,” highlighting developments in fibre manufacturing and the company’s equipment innovations.

The congress brought together more than 100 expert speakers and over 400 attendees from industrial and academic organisations. Participants included companies such as Barmag, Sembis and Fraunhofer, alongside academic organisations including CETI in France, Aachen in Germany and Fibernamics in Portugal.

Against the backdrop of decarbonisation pressures and changing market demands, the event provided a platform for discussing new technologies and collaboration across the global fibre industry.

FET Highlights Advances in Fibre Processing

Dr Hunter’s presentation examined major challenges and technological developments across the fibre industry. FET designs, develops and manufactures specialised fibre processing equipment to help customers address specific research and production requirements.

The company’s established expertise centres on melt spinning technologies for multifilament, monofilament and nonwoven applications. The presentation also covered several specialised technologies that have expanded FET’s capabilities.

These include:

  • Meltblown systems: Equipment for producing non-continuous nonwoven fibres.
  • Spunbond systems: Equipment for manufacturing continuous nonwoven structures.
  • Wet spinning systems: Solutions for applications where melt spinning is not suitable.

These technologies allow FET to support a range of fibre development and processing requirements across different industries.

FET-500 Series Advances UHMWPE Gel Spinning

A key focus of the presentation was FET’s latest development: the FET Gel Spinning system, branded as the FET-500 Series.

The system enables rapid, small-scale gel spinning of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) without using the toxic solvents typically associated with the process.

FET received the Techtextil Innovation Award 2026 in the New Production Technology category for this development.

The technology adds to the company’s portfolio of specialised fibre processing solutions and supports small-scale material development.

Focus on Environmental Challenges and Fibre Development

FET highlighted its efforts to help customers address environmental challenges in research and production. Its equipment development aims to help minimise pollution and material waste across fibre processing activities.

The company’s Fibre Development Centre further supports this work by providing facilities where customers can trial their own products under controlled development conditions.

According to FET, it has successfully processed more than 130 different polymer types in multifilament, monofilament and nonwoven formats.

This experience supports the company’s work across a broad range of polymer processing requirements and fibre technologies.

FET to Exhibit at COMPAMED 2026

FET’s next exhibition will be COMPAMED 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 16–19 November 2026.

Visitors can find the company at Hall 08B, Stand 8BJ109, where it will have another opportunity to engage with industry professionals and discuss its fibre processing technologies.
