Gartex Texprocess India will expand into Eastern India with its first Kolkata edition, scheduled for 22–24 January 2027 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata. Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd and MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd will jointly organise the event.
The expansion follows nearly a decade of industry engagement through the exhibition’s editions in Delhi and Mumbai. With Kolkata added to its calendar, the platform will extend its reach across North, West and East India, increasing its annual schedule to three editions.
The new edition aims to connect Eastern India’s established textile heritage with the region’s growing interest in manufacturing technology, modernisation and capacity expansion.
Eastern India Offers Opportunities for Textile Manufacturing
West Bengal has a long history in India’s textile industry. Its strengths include handloom traditions, jute production, hosiery and garment manufacturing.
The state’s weaving and craft clusters, including Fulia, Santipur, Bishnupur and Murshidabad, continue to reflect this heritage. Meanwhile, Kolkata and its surrounding districts have a long association with India’s hosiery industry, which has developed over more than a century.
The region is also known for ethnic wear, kidswear, zari and embroidery. In addition, the Hooghly belt remains a major centre for India’s jute industry. The sector is now expanding into products such as bags, home textiles, geotextiles and composites.
As garment manufacturing grows, demand for woven fabrics is also increasing. The state has encouraged investment in powerloom and processing facilities, including the integrated textile park at Ashoknagar–Banipur.
At the same time, manufacturers across Eastern India are looking to modernise their operations. Their priorities include advanced machinery, technology adoption, increased production capacity and wider market access.
Gartex Texprocess India Expands Its National Reach
Since its launch, Gartex Texprocess India has developed into a platform for India’s textile and garment manufacturing industry. Its Delhi and Mumbai editions have built connections among garment manufacturers, fabric suppliers, technology providers and buyers.
The addition of Kolkata marks the next stage in this development. It will bring the exhibition closer to manufacturers in Eastern India while extending access to machinery and technology suppliers from across the country and international markets.
The new edition is designed to support a garment and apparel industry that is preparing to expand production, adopt newer technologies and reach wider markets.
For exhibitors, Kolkata offers access to a market where many have had limited physical presence. For companies based in Eastern India, the event will provide a local platform to present their products and capabilities to a wider national audience.
Visitors, meanwhile, will be able to explore machinery, fabrics, trims, accessories and related solutions closer to their businesses.
Kolkata Connects Regional Textile Markets
Kolkata’s location also provides access to a wider economic region covering Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand and the North-East.
These markets offer different areas of textile activity. Bhagalpur has an established silk industry, while Bihar also has emerging garment units. Odisha is attracting new investment in apparel and technical textiles.
In the North-East, handloom production and Muga and Eri silk form important parts of the textile economy. In addition, Kolkata’s connectivity with neighbouring markets such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan creates opportunities for cross-border interest in fabrics, trims and textile technology.
By bringing manufacturers and technology suppliers together, the Kolkata edition aims to support connections across these markets and the wider textile value chain.
Messe Frankfurt Highlights Eastern India’s Growth Potential
Commenting on the expansion, Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member of Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, said:
“Over nearly a decade, Gartex Texprocess India has evolved alongside India’s textile and garment manufacturing industry, building strong industry engagement through our editions in Delhi and Mumbai. Our expansion to Kolkata is a natural next step in that journey. Eastern India combines a remarkable textile and handloom heritage with an increasingly ambitious manufacturing community that is looking towards technology, modernisation and new markets. We want Gartex Texprocess India to be part of that future growth, connecting the strengths of this region with technology providers, manufacturers and buyers from across India and international markets.”
MEX Exhibitions Sees Scope for Modernisation and Market Access
Gaurav Juneja, Director of MEX Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, also highlighted the opportunities in Eastern India’s textile and garment sector.
“Eastern India’s textile and garment industry presents significant opportunities, particularly as manufacturers look towards capacity expansion, modernisation and wider market access. Gartex Texprocess India in Kolkata will provide the industry with a platform where manufacturers and buyers can see, compare and source technologies and solutions in one place. For exhibitors, it opens access to a new and important market, while for visitors it brings a comprehensive textile technology platform closer to their doorstep. Kolkata is a market we have been evaluating closely, and we believe the time is right to be here.”
Exhibition to Cover Machinery, Fabrics and Processing Technology
The Kolkata edition is expected to bring together companies from across the textile and garment manufacturing value chain. Its exhibits will reflect the region’s established industries and emerging technology requirements.
Key areas will include:
- Circular knitting, hosiery and knitwear machinery
- Spinning, sewing, embroidery and garment-making technology
- Digital textile printing equipment
- Dyeing and finishing machinery
- Power looms, weaving, sizing and woven fabric processing
- Jute processing technology and equipment for diversified jute products
- Fabrics, trims, accessories and allied solutions
The focus on woven fabric processing reflects growing demand for woven materials in West Bengal. Jute technology will also be relevant to the region’s established jute industry and its expanding range of applications.
Kolkata Edition to Link Textile Heritage with Modern Technology
Gartex Texprocess India’s expansion into Kolkata brings a textile technology platform to a region with a long history of craftsmanship and a growing interest in modern manufacturing.
Through its new edition, the exhibition aims to connect regional manufacturers with machinery suppliers, technology providers and buyers. It will also provide a platform for companies to explore production upgrades, capacity expansion and wider market opportunities.
