MANTRA expert session introduces students to energy auditing, conservation and practical measurement techniques
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Government Engineering College (GEC), Valsad, organised an expert lecture on “Industrial Energy Auditing & Efficiency Practices” for fifth-semester students of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
The programme featured Bhavdeep Shah, Head Engineer, Energy Conversion Cell, MANTRA, Surat, as the keynote speaker. MANTRA (Man Made Textile Research Association) is a textile research institute based in Surat and one of the eight Textile Research Associations (TRAs) in India. The institute operates under the approval of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Insights into Industrial Energy Conservation
During the lecture, Bhavdeep Shah provided students with insights into industrial energy conservation and measures for improving energy efficiency in boilers and thermal systems.
The session also introduced students to career opportunities in the field of energy auditing, including the pathway towards becoming Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)-certified Energy Auditors.
Practical Demonstration of Energy Measurement
A live practical demonstration formed an important part of the programme. Students were introduced to the Yokogawa CW240 Clamp-On Power Analyzer, which was used to demonstrate real-time measurement of power quality, voltage and current in a three-phase electrical system.
The demonstration provided students with an opportunity to understand the practical aspects of energy auditing measurements and their application in industrial environments.
More Than 50 Students Participate
More than 50 students participated in the programme. The event was organised by Dr. Hitesh Kishorbhai Solanki of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The Principal and Head of the Department, Dr. V. D. Dhimne, congratulated the organiser and the team for conducting the programme.
Practical Exposure to Energy Auditing
The lecture provided participating students with an introduction to energy conservation and auditing practices, along with an overview of career opportunities in the energy conservation sector.
Students also gained exposure to practical energy-auditing measurements and an understanding of industrial and commercial machines and utilities. The combination of expert interaction and live equipment demonstration provided an application-oriented perspective on industrial energy efficiency.
