The new production line at Magnera’s Dombühl site will support lightweight and elastic films for personal care and healthcare applications.
Magnera has announced the successful installation and commissioning of a new blown film production line at its manufacturing site in Dombühl, Germany.
The investment is part of the ongoing modernization of the Dombühl facility. It combines new blown film technology with infrastructure and production upgrades aimed at creating a flexible manufacturing platform for changing market requirements.
Five-Layer Blown Film Technology
The new line is a five-layer blown film production system designed to expand Magnera’s capabilities in lightweight and elastic films.
The films are intended for applications in the personal care and healthcare sectors. The new platform is also designed to increase manufacturing flexibility and process efficiency.
The five-layer architecture allows film structures to be tailored to specific application requirements. It can support optimization of surface characteristics, bonding performance and tactile properties.
The line also provides customizable high-performance elastic functionality for applications requiring specific material performance.
Platform Supports Product Development
According to Magnera, the new production platform will allow customers to develop customized film structures and support product trials.
Tarun Manroa, Chief Operating Officer of Magnera, said:
“This investment reflects Magnera’s commitment to strengthening our manufacturing capabilities and delivering high-quality material solutions to customers around the world,” said Tarun Manroa, Chief Operating Officer of Magnera. “The new Dombühl platform enhances our ability to innovate, respond to changing market requirements, and support future growth while reinforcing the long-term competitiveness of the site. Importantly, it gives customers access to a highly flexible development platform that can support customized structures, accelerate product trials, and help optimize performance across a range of applications.”
The company said the platform is intended to provide greater flexibility in developing film structures for different end-use requirements.
Commercial Production Expected in October
Commissioning activities for the new line began in August 2026.
The production line is currently progressing through product verification and qualification. Magnera expects commercial production to begin in October 2026.
The investment forms part of the broader modernization of the Dombühl manufacturing site and expands the facility’s film production capabilities.
Magnera Showcases Platform at EDANA Outlook Conference
Magnera recently showcased the new Dombühl film platform at the annual Outlook Conference of the European Disposables and Nonwovens Association (EDANA).
The company said the platform generated strong customer interest during the event. The showcase also highlighted the role of film manufacturing capabilities in developing solutions for the European market.
The company said the customer response reinforced demand for new film solutions and the strategic importance of expanding its film manufacturing capabilities in Europe.
Focus on Manufacturing Capabilities
Manroa also highlighted the contribution of the teams involved in the project.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of the teams involved throughout planning, construction, installation, and commissioning,” added Manroa. “Their efforts have established a modern production platform that will support our customers and drive growth for years to come.”
The new line adds to Magnera’s manufacturing capabilities in Europe and provides an additional platform for the development and production of lightweight and elastic films.
