Home / New Spinning Method Embeds Circuits in Soft Fibres
New technique integrates electronic circuits into soft fibres, potentially improving the durability of wearable smart textiles.
Researchers at Donghua University in Shanghai have developed a spinning method that embeds electronic circuits inside soft fibres, potentially addressing the problem of fragile electrical connections in wearable smart textiles.
According to the researchers, the fibres can withstand repeated bending, stretching and standard machine washing. They can also be woven or sewn into fabrics, offering potential for applications in wearable electronics and smart textiles.
Unlike conventional approaches that attach separate electronic devices to textiles, the new method combines fibre formation, component fabrication and electrical connections in one continuous process. This could help integrate electronic functionality directly into textile fibres while reducing reliance on separate components and connections.
